Turkmenistan Initiative on Transport-Transit Corridors Supported in UN

Conference devoted to the Resolution of UN General Assembly “Role of transport-transit corridors in maintenance of international cooperation for sustainable development” was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Ambassadors of Turkmenistan in abroad, officials diplomatic corps and representative offices of international organizations accredited to our country, several ministries and departments, chancellors of a series of higher educational establishments, social organizations as well as representatives of national and foreign mass media were invited for participation in it. 

In the reports of conference participants, it was noted dynamic nature of cooperation of our country with the United Nations Organization and its leading structures, including with the UN Economic Commission for Europe, Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) as well as with OSCE, International Union of Motor Transport, Intergovernmental Commission on Europe-the Caucasus-Asia transport corridor and other international organizations. 

As it was underlined proceeding from objective realties, Turkmenistan on modern stage formed own concept of development of interaction with international community in the field of transport. Its main purpose consists in advancement on the world arena of scientifically based and active from practical viewpoint models on multisided partnership in this sphere, creation of a complex of relevant conditions essential for intensification and increase of effectiveness of international transport-transit communications. 

In particular, the UN resident coordinator, Resident representative of UNDP in Turkmenistan Jacinta Barrins emphasized the importance of this resolution for inland states as well as its significance in the context of additional assistance in socio-economic revival of Afghanistan owing to development of transport corridors.
